Midsomer Murders pubs: where to eat, drink and stay

Midsomer’s pubs often change names between cases. Use the real pub and village names below to connect a remembered screen local with the place that supplied it.

The real pubs behind the screen signs

The Six Bells, The Red Lion, The Eight Bells and The Bull & Butcher each have their own episode identities. A pub exterior and its fictional interior can also come from different real places. Read the individual scene descriptions before deciding that a familiar sign identifies every part of a screen business.

For a meal or drink, check the real venue’s own current opening and booking arrangements. For an overnight stay, the labelled town searches let you compare accommodation nearby. A filming connection is a reason to recognise a building; the practical choice of where to eat or sleep belongs to the present place and your own route.

Choose a pub stop that fits the day

Begin with a case you remember, then compare the pub’s real location with the other stops you intend to make. A village green, a church and a pub can give a short walk a clear focus. Leave enough time for ordinary travel between places, and keep your route based on real names rather than the geography created by an episode’s editing.

The Wallingford, Warborough and Dorchester route is one option for a day with pub and hotel connections. The full locations map helps compare other clusters. If you want a wider countryside route, the German itinerary follows two suggested days.
